Advanced Membrane Separation Technologies
for Industry and Environment

Membrane separation is a sustainable technology that does not require the use of chemicals or heat and does not generate air pollution or noise. It allows to remove contaminants, recover water and valorize by-products, offering versatile and efficient solutions for many industrial processes.

Our technologies are ideal for wastewater treatment, resource recovery and purification of process solutions in various manufacturing sectors.

Thanks to a consolidated experience and a strong vocation for research and development, we offer customized, highly efficient and sustainable systems.

Our systems are designed starting from an in-depth analysis of the effluent and the customer’s objectives. The choice of the type of membrane is based on:

Available technologies

Microfiltration (MF)
Microfiltration is a cross-flow filtration process with larger pore sizes (0.1–10 μm), used at low pressure to remove bacteria, fats, yeasts and fungi. It is used to clarify chemical, biological, pharmaceutical and food solutions, purify products and treat wastewater.

Ultrafiltration (UF)
Ultrafiltration is a low-pressure technique that retains large molecules (between 1,000 and 1,000,000 Daltons), allowing water, salts and low molecular weight compounds to pass through. It is used to concentrate and recover substances, remove contaminants, clarify solutions and as a pretreatment for reverse osmosis.

Nanofiltration (NF)
Nanofiltration is an intermediate pressure separation process, which is between UF and RO. It allows the passage of monovalent ions and light organic molecules, retaining larger compounds. With a molecular cut-off between 150 and 500 Daltons, it is ideal for removing color, hardness, pesticides and for applications in the pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries.

Reverse Osmosis (RO)
Reverse osmosis is a high-pressure filtration technology that uses semi-permeable membranes to separate dissolved solids, salts, and contaminants from water. Compared to traditional systems, modern RO technologies allow for a higher concentration of solids, optimizing energy efficiency and improving membrane life and performance.

Industrial applications

Themis membrane separation systems are widely used in various industrial sectors,
thanks to their effectiveness in the purification, concentration and recovery of substances.

Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology

Membranes are used in post-fermentation for the production of antibiotics and biological active ingredients. Among the main applications: clarification of broths, concentration of enzymes and proteins, sterilization of solutions and removal of cellular residues.

Bioproteins, Bioplastics and Green Chemistry

Ideal for sustainable processes such as the production of bioethanol, biodiesel and biopolymers, Themis membranes are used to concentrate and purify bioproteins, fractionate biomass and obtain nutraceuticals and probiotics.

Chemistry and fine chemistry

Used for the recovery and purification of acids, alkalis, solvents, oils and catalysts, membranes improve the efficiency of chemical processes and reduce environmental impact.

Food and Drink

In the food industry, membranes allow the clarification and concentration of juices, sugars, starches, gelatins, natural extracts, as well as the treatment and reuse of process water.

Wastewater treatment and reuse

Themis solutions for industrial wastewater treatment aim for a “Zero Discharge” approach, promoting water recycling. Through analysis and testing, we select the most suitable technologies to return reusable water, even in the presence of complex contaminants.
